Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia and the fourth most populous city in Australia. The Perth metropolitan area has an estimated population of almost 1,700,000.

The metropolitan area is located in the South West Division of Western Australia, between the Indian Ocean and a low coastal escarpment known as the Darling Range. The central business district and suburbs of Perth are situated on the banks of the Swan River. Shortly after the establishment of the port settlement of Fremantle, Perth was founded on 12 June 1829 by Captain James Stirling as the political centre of the Swan River Colony. As the business and administration centre for the resource-rich state, Perth has grown consistently faster than the national average.

Perth became known worldwide as the "City of Light" when city residents lit their house lights and streetlights as American astronaut John Glenn passed overhead while orbiting the earth on Friendship 7 in 1962. The city repeated the act as Glenn passed overhead on the Space Shuttle in 1998. Perth is tied for eighth place in The Economist's 2011 list of the World's Most Livable Cities.

Stand-Up Paddleboarding Lesson plus Guided Paddle on Perth's Swan River more_vert
    $55.00 AUD Book
    close
This 2-hour introductory stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) lesson and guided paddle on the Swan River will have you up and riding at an independent level, learning key skills so you can go out and practice safely on your own on flat water or in small waves. Watch for marine life, admire the Perth scenery, and receive plenty of tips from an Academy of Surfing Instructors (ASI)–qualified instructor. Select the number of people in your group when booking.

Meet your stand-up paddleboarding instructor at Point Walter in the Perth suburb of Bicton, on the south shore of the Swan River. You'll be outfitted with provided equipment to get your SUP lesson started.

Before you stand up, its important to learn how to paddle on your knees and when lying flat, as well as board control, how to turn the board using basic paddle techniques, foot placement and stance, and self rescue. This lesson should leave you feeling very confident in the water as you put your new skills to use by venturing out on your guided paddle along the river, gliding through the scattered boats along the cliff faces toward Blackwall Reach. Stop to rest at beaches along the way, where you can stretch and relax on your board in the tranquil water before heading back to your starting point.

You are likely to see a variety of marine wildlife while paddling, plus enjoy the opportunity to practice your skills in a safe and encouraging environment with your ASI-qualified coach. Take in the tranquility of this section of the river, listen to tips from your guide, and put your skills to the test with some races and games.

8-Day Cape to Cape Track Guided Walking Tour from Perth more_vert
    $2300.00 AUD Book
    close

If you want to walk the iconic Cape to Cape Track along the famous Margaret River coastline in comfort without camping, then this tour is for you. Take in cliff-top vistas, white sand beaches and clean ocean air on this 135-km guided walk. Ideally suited to over 50's, you will complete spectacular walks each day and return to comfortable lodge style accommodation each evening. Carrying only a small day pack and enjoying delicious and healthy meals (and yes, all dietary needs are catered for) along the way, walking this track is both achievable and enjoyable. The small group size means there are plenty of opportunities to develop new friendships and share experiences. This walk is certainly achievable to those with a moderate level of fitness but if you need a rest day or would like a shorter day of walking then there are options as well. Tours are always guaranteed to depart.

    Day 1: Cape Naturaliste - Yallingup, 14-km (8.7-mi)
Departing from Perth you reach Cape Naturaliste by lunch time. Enjoy the first of many fresh picnic lunches for the week on the lawn at the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and get to know your companions. Today’s walk on the Cape to Cape track is relatively easy with mostly cliff-top and some beach walking. Keep an eye out for dolphins!

    Day 2: Yallingup - Moses Rock, 18-km (11.2-mi)
Some beach walking in the morning and superb coastal views all day. The red granite boulders, white sand beaches and turquoise waters can be gobsmackingly beautiful. Have lunch at the surfing Mecca, Injidup, visit Quinninup Falls and finish with ocean views at Moses Rock.

    Day 3: Moses Rock - Gracetown, 16-km (9.9-mi)
The magnificent sweeping views of the coast from cliff-top vantage points, and the towering red rocks of Willyabrup are two of many highlights on this day. If the weather’s nice, you might enjoy a refreshing swim in the sheltered bay at Gracetown or just soak those feet as you reflect on another great day.

    Day 4: Gracetown - Margaret River mouth, 18-km (11.2-mi)
It’s fairly easy walking among coastal heath to Ellensbrook historic homestead, where you can enjoy morning tea and explore the grounds. After heading inland for a while you will return to the coast for a very pleasant beach walk up to Cape Mentelle. Finish the day at the Margaret River mouth – a good place for a swim if it’s warm.

    Day 5: River mouth - Boranup Forest, 25-km (15.5-mi)
Head inland again to start with, and enjoy morning tea beside the Boodjidup Brook. A beach walk takes you to Redgate for lunch and then a spectacular stretch of cliff-top walking sees you reach shady Contos Campground by afternoon tea. The final part of the day is through the cool peaceful forest on firm, easy tracks.

    Day 6: Boranup Forest - Cosy Corner, 21-km (13-mi)
This morning continue through the karri forest before making your way down to the aqua-blue waters of Hamelin Bay. Enjoy the peace, the view and the moment as you walk into Hamelin Bay for a picnic lunch. After lunch it’s a short but challenging hike up to the tiny Foul Bay Lighthouse, with sweeping views back along the coast.

    Day 7: Cosy Corner - Cape Leeuwin, 21-km (13-mi)
Much of the walking is along a limestone ledge close to the sea, complete with blowholes! There is a long beach stretch where you can daydream about all that you’ve achieved this week. After that heading inland, occasionally sighting the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, signalling the end of your walk.

    Day 8: Return to Perth
Enjoy a sleep in and a leisurely breakfast this morning before dropping past Margaret River where you can enjoy a coffee and perhaps a spot of shopping.

4-Day Margaret River Active Tour from Perth Including the Cape to Cape Track, Wineries, Caves and Galleries more_vert
    $1350.00 AUD Book
    close

This tour has it all, adventure, sight seeing and relaxation! Over 4 days, walk the highlights of the iconic Cape to Cape Track, exploring the white sand beaches, turquoise waters and cliff top vistas of this spectacular coastal trail. Carrying only a small day pack and enjoying delicious and healthy meals (and yes all dietary requirements are catered for) this tour is designed to provide adventure with maximum comfort. To make your visit to the Margaret River region complete, the itinerary also includes a visit to Jewel Cave, one of over one hundred limestone caves in the area, wine tastings, lunch at a winery, an art gallery, a visit to the Augusta lighthouse and a whole lot more. The small group size means there are plenty of opportunities to develop new friendships and share experiences.

Day 1 – Drive from Perth, walk Smiths Beach to Wyadup, 7-km walk (LD)
Leave the big smoke behind and head ‘down south’, departing Perth at 8:30am. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the picturesque seaside town of Yallingup before starting the short but spectacular walk. There are a few rocky and hilly challenges early on but the deeply dissected red granite boulders and the turquoise oceans beyond are worth the effort. After a full day, head to your accommodation in Margaret River for a wine before dinner at the motel restaurant.
Note: As you walk on the first afternoon, you will need to wear your walking clothes on the bus and have your day pack (water, camera etc) ready to go.
Accommodation: Grange on Farrelly Margaret River

Day 2 – Moses Rock to Gracetown, 16-km walk (BLD)
A fairly full day of easy going walking. There are a few hills and some sandy patches but the terrain is generally fairly easy. The magnificent sweeping views of the coast from cliff-top vantage points, the towering red rocks of Willyabrup, as well as some ‘gnarly’ surf breaks will have you enchanted all day. Finish in the small township of Gracetown where you might enjoy a refreshing swim in the sheltered bay.  After the walk, head to a local botanical artist gallery to view her stunning studio and “Chapel of Flowers”.
Accommodation: Grange on Farrelly Margaret River

Day 3 – Redgate Beach to Contos or Boranup Forest, 7-km walk (BLD)
Start with a short beach walk along the beautiful Redgate Beach before making our way to Bob’s Hollow, where there is time to explore the awesome limestone crags and caverns. Climbing out of Bobs Hollow brings you to the clifftops above Contos Beach and Cape Freycinet. Here the Cape to Cape weaves through thick coastal vegetation and delivers some spectacular coastal views over the turquoise waters below. We will head back to the accommodation so you can freshen up before heading out for a winery lunch.  Followed up by a few more winery visits, it is a great fun afternoon with a touch of decadence.
Accommodation: Grange on Farrelly Margaret River

Day 4 – Jewel Cave and walk near Cape Leeuwin, 3-km walk (BL)
No visit to the Margaret River region would be complete without experiencing one of the many caves that underlie this area. This morning explore Jewel Cave. This 1.9-kilometre long, 42-metre deep cave is the most beautiful of Margaret River’s 350 caves. Following the cave exploration, complete your final walk for the tour a short 3-km walk to Cape Leeuwin, where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. It is a very pretty area and is a lovely way to finish your Cape to Cape experience.

After lunch in Augusta, board the bus one last time for the drive back to Perth where you should arrive by about 5pm.

Enjoy the picturesque coast of the Perth area on a 1- or 1.5-hour Jet Ski tour around Cockburn Sound and Garden Island, just south of the city. As you cruise across the water, keep your eyes peeled for sightings of native wildlife like dolphins and sea lions. Tours are limited to three Jet Skis plus one instructor-guide on his or her own Jet Ski; each watercraft can hold up to two people max, so up to six people can take the tour at the same time. You have two tour options when booking—the Eco-Tour or the longer, faster Blast Tour.

If you share a Jet Ski, you can swap half-way through the tour so you can both experience the excitement of driving as well as being a passenger. After a thorough safety briefing and demonstration provided by your guide, take off across Cockburn Sound on one of the following two tour options.

    Eco-Tour (1 hour)
This Jet Ski tour is suitable for everyone and focuses on the marine wildlife of the waterway and the surroundings of Garden Island. On this mid-paced journey, you have the chance to spot dolphins, sea lions, pelicans, and other seabirds.

    Blast Tour (1.5 hours)
This option is all about riding your Jet Ski and maximizing your time on the water. Travel 25 miles (40 km) along the sound and around Garden Island, enjoying a free-wheeling adrenaline blast as you discover the agility of the clean green (and powerful) machine. Toward the end of the tour, you have the opportunity to try some advance maneuvers in the freestyle area.

Penguin Island Tour with Dolphin and Sea Lion Cruise more_vert
    $85.00 AUD Book
    close
Discover the wildlife of Penguin Island and Shoalwater Island Marine Park during a 90-minute cruise with an expert guide. Watch wild dolphins frolicking near your boat, circle small islands to observe Australian sea lions and seabirds, then disembark at Penguin Island, home to the largest colony of little penguins in Western Australia. Observe the ranger-led little penguin feeding at the Discovery Centre, then explore the center and island on your own. Swim, hike, snorkel, picnic—the choice is yours. Simply catch the ferry back to Shoalwater when you are done.

Make your own way to Shoalwater, located about a 45-minute drive from central Perth, to meet your boat for the 90-minute cruise through Shoalwater Island Marine Park.

As your boat sets out, your guide locates some of the 200 bottlenose dolphins that live in these waters. Many are known to your guides and given names such as Logo, Boomerang and Blizzard. Learn fascinating facts about dolphins such as how they use cooperative hunting methods to catch their food. You may see mothers looking after newborn calves or witness the acrobatic mammals jumping next to the boat and riding in the wake. Your boat is equipped with an underwater microphone that also allows you to hear the dolphins’ clicks and whistles.

After enjoying the dolphins, take in scenic highlights of Shoalwater Bay as you cruise by Seal Island to see Australian sea lions up close and seabirds such as pelicans, ospreys, cormorants and terns that nest on the rugged islands.

Your cruise ends at beautiful Penguin Island, a nature reserve that is home to Western Australia’s largest colony of little penguins. Arrive at the island just in time to see the pint-size penguins feeding at the Discovery Centre. A park ranger leads a feeding presentation that lasts about 20 minutes and answers visitor questions about the center, which provides care for injured wild penguins or those deemed unfit for release. You can watch the little penguins swimming and waddling in a habitat that resembles their natural home.

The rest of your day is up to you. Enjoy free time to explore the nature reserve, take an easy 45-minute hike along the nature trail, swim, snorkel, picnic or simply relax. When you're ready, make your way to the jetty to catch the ferry for the 5-minute ride back to the mainland.

Many of Fremantle’s formerly grand Victorian and Edwardian buildings have remained intact, more so than in other Australian cities.

Enjoy a stop at the notorious Fremantle Prison, built in the 1850s by convict labor and in use until 1991. UNESCO added Fremantle Prison to its World Heritage list in recognition of its being the last and most intact of the British colonial prisons in Australia. Convict laborers built colonial buildings and worked in mining and agriculture, especially necessary when the early colony's population was sparse.

Take a guided tour (at own expense) and listen to your guide’s stories about Irish prisoner escapes, British bushrangers (escaped convicts with survival skills for the wild) and the expulsion of aboriginal people to Rottnest Island. You'll learn about Rottnest Island's importance during World War II and be able to spot it from the Roundhouse.

When you reach the Cappuccino Strip, you’ll stroll along the thriving streets, alive with cafes, art galleries, pubs, restaurants, music venues and funky shops.

Your walking tour ends at the Fremantle Roundhouse. Built in 1830, the Roundhouse is Western Australia's oldest building. Get a sense of this historic prison’s significance as your guide explains its role in the colony. From the top of the steps, you’ll be able to snap photos of the fantastic views over the harbor, ocean and colonial Fremantle.

Margaret River’s coast to the west of the town is a world-renowned surfing location, known for its amazing surf breaks. Colloquially, the area is referred to as “Margs”. The surrounding area is the Margaret River Wine Region and is known for its quality wine production, culinary experiences and tourism, attracting a staggering 500,000 visitors annually.

Géographe Bay was named in May 1801 by French explorer Nicolas Baudin after his ship. The bay is a wide curve of coastline extending from Cape Naturaliste past the towns of Dunsborough and Busselton, ending near the city of Bunbury. Protected from the rough seas of the Indian Ocean by Cape Naturaliste, which makes it a popular destination for recreational boaters. The bay is extremely shallow, limiting the entrance of large ships. To alleviate the problem the amazing 2-kilometre long Busselton Jetty, the longest in the southern hemisphere, was built.
